If you've ever seen a dog or cat with red or brown marks in the areas around and just under the eyes, you've seen a pet that is suffering from tear staining. Some can assume that the stains are caused by excessive moisture from the eyes but is that relay the cause? There can be many factors to this condition. You might want to understand and figure out the root of the problem.

Epiphora caused by too many tears is an automatic response to irritants such as dust, infection, allergens, poor diet or a health problem. The excess tearing could be a health problem you do not realize your pet may have. It has been described as like when you have a runny nose. It is one way bodies rid themselves of toxins.

Sudden onset tearing staining in adult dogs:

One reason may be that you have recently changed your pets' diet. You should make the change to the new food more gradually.

Maybe you have moved to a new home (or pet day care) or you have new carpeting, furniture, a new pet or family member or other changes around your house or yard, suspect environment.

Puppy Tear Staining:

Puppies tear as they grow. They also tear when teething. This condition is normal and will often go away on its own. Please do NOT give antibiotics to puppies to stop tear staining. You may set them up for a lifetime of digestive disorders, discolored teeth, yeast infections and other health problems.

Dysfunction of the tear duct system:

Sometimes the tearing is because of Dysfunction of the tear duct. We recommend to always consult your Veterinarian first before trying any solution. Before investing hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars in a lifetime of tear stain products. This is especially important for Brachycephalic (flat faced) breeds like Shih Tzu and Lhasa Apso.

Ear infections:

Eye staining can be linked back to ear infections, so it's important to keep your dog or cat's ears as clean and dry as possible. If you notice that your pet is getting a lot of ear infections which also can coincide with excessive eye tearing, the two are probably related. We recommend using a mixed solution of water and Oxy-pH Boost™ for pets Sodium Chlorite Solution to help clean the ears. Then Total-Biotics® to help build up the immune system.

Allergies:

Dogs and cats can experience reactions to thing just like humans, and eye tear staining can often be a reaction to allergens or irritants. In fact, some pets will suffer reactions to their food which will change the pH level in your dog's system which in turn can cause excessive tearing. If you notice that your pets tear stains get worse in certain situations than it might be an environmental factor that is adding to the problem. We suggest you use Total-Zymes ® and Oxy-pH Boost™ for pets Sodium Chlorite Solution.

Red Yeast Bacteria:

One of the biggest causes of eye tear staining might be a high level of moisture that can keep the hair around the face wet, which then becomes an area where bacteria can breed. One of the most common forms of this bacteria, is called Red Yeast, which causes a yeast infection around the eyes and leads to the brownish-red stains that you sometimes see on dogs. We recommend and Oxy-pH Boost™ Sodium Chlorite Solution to help clean the face (do not get in eyes). Then Total-Biotics® to help build up the immune system and crowd out the bacteria.

Water:

Some waters contain a high mineral content, which can cause staining on the face and beard. A lot of moisture can remain on the face trapped in the hairs after your pet drinks, which can be moved to eye level by your dog or cat trying to lick his face clean. And, if the mineral content is high, it will increase the level of red-brown staining on face. If you notice both tear stains and a discolored fur, try switching the water to combat the problem. Add Oxy-pH Boost™ Sodium Chlorite Solution to your pet's water this will help keep it clean and boost their immune system.

Total-Biotics® helps to boost your dog's immune system and fight tear stains.

Oxy-pH Boost™ Sodium Chlorite Solution Helps with Bacterial Overgrowth, Kills Yeast while supporting healthy probiotics.
